<Scene 1 – A star arrives>
The scene opens on the staff car park outside the newly opened Beyond+ arena. It was empty apart from a couple of expensive looking motors. The sky is beginning to darken. A red glow lights up the clouds on the horizon as the setting sun leaves its last message until the morning. The street lights are on and their own glow of fake luminescence highlights the ground beneath in an artificial way cutting in to the impending shadow cast by the arena building itself. The only noise audible outside is the drone of the evening traffic making its way through the city. People going home to their families after a days work, some going for some extra-marital time, others just going about their business. For many the day was over, for the people that would be inside the arena tonight the day had only just begun.
The camera pans to the left as a growling engine is heard in the distance. Focusing and zooming to the end of the street the source of the growl is found. Two pin pricks of light fly around a corner, from the angle change between the two lights and the accompanying squeal of tyres it is apparent that the car was being drifted around the corner. The lights straightened up and sped towards the arena, slowing only to negotiate the speed bump at the car park entrance before accelerating the short distance to an available parking bay in the centre of the car park. The tyres squealed as they began to lose their battle with friction and the car stopped. It sat there for a few seconds before the click of the trunk release was heard and the driver’s door opened.
The car was a Silver Porsche Carerra GT. It was a lot of motor car. The hard top was currently up, not allowing the camera to gain a glimpse of the occupant. This was soon remedied however as the driver slowly stepped out of the car. The man was just short of six foot. He appeared to have a muscular torso through a plain white t-shirt and a simple pair of denim stonewashed jeans. His short dark hair was styled to be slightly messy. He looked at the arena with his hands on his hips and thought to himself:
Justin: So. This is it!
>>>FLASHBACK<<<
The scene opens on a wrestling ring inside a reasonable sized hall. WWE this wasn’t, but for an independent promotion it had a solid and loyal fan base. The ring was alive with action as two superstars are going at it. One of the superstars can be recognised as Justin Flash and it is clear he is a fan favourite here. He receives regular pops from the crowd and is not the target of the glass bottles that litter the ring floor as well as the arena floor in general. A few moments later the first signs of exactly why Justin is so popular is shown as the star runs the length of the ring, jumps to the top rope and springs backwards performing a perfect cross body into pin and picks up a win to the joy of the crowd.
The scene quickly changes to the locker room. Wrestlers are hanging about talking about the show they have just put on, some high fiving each other, others congratulating individuals on their performances. Justin Flash walks into the room to the cheers of the other wrestlers and smiles, heading to his own corner of the room. His eyebrows furrow as he spots a stranger dressed in a suit leaning against his locker. He cautiously approaches the stranger.
Justin: This is my locker jack. You lost?
Man: Not at all. I was actually hoping for a moment of your time.
Justin: Well the next moment of my time is going to be in that shower, and you sure as hell better not be in there waiting for me.
Man: I’ll forgive your attitude as you clearly don’t know who I am or who I represent. I have a table booked here at mid day tomorrow. Join me for lunch, after you have showered of course, and I could well change your life.
The man hands Justin a business card with the address of a restaurant on the reverse and leaves before Justin could respond.
>>>END FLASHBACK<<<
Justin Flash found himself standing outside the Beyond + arena. He looked up and it certainly was an impressive building. Maybe this really was his big break like the guy said. Until now he hadn’t really believed a word that escaped the guys mouth. But here he was and he sure as hell wasn’t going to waste the opportunity.
>>>FLASHBACK<<<
The scene opens on a small Italian restaurant. It was situated just along the river from the gym Justin trained at regularly and as Justin was training this particular morning he saw no reason to miss the meeting he was invited to last night. It is a small building all on one level but the car park is full. “Gino’s” is the name on the sign of red and green neon across the side of the building. A silver Porsche enters the car park and pulls into one of the few empty parking spaces. He pulls up the handbrake, kills the ignition and opens the door. In one fluid movement he is out of the car and heading towards the restaurant. He checks his watch and see’s that he is ten minutes early. He gets to the door which is opened for him by a member of the waiting staff. A nice touch. As he enters the building he comes to another member of staff in the foyer waiting with a booking sheet. This is a petite female with the restaurants’ unflattering uniform doing a great job of masking some tasty curves. She has blonde hair tied up in a tight pony tail. She is tapping a black biro against the top of the booking sheet. She looks like she is into her early twenties. Justin wondered if this was paying her through college or keeping her in an apartment. He knew all too well how a single choice can change your whole life.
Staff member : Buongiorno! How may I help you?
He smiled at her and she blushed slightly. He was starting to get recognised a lot more now he was back on the main cards and he saw that look of recognition spark in her eyes. With the restaraunt this close to the gym it couldnt be a rare occasion to see a wrestler in here, he thought.
Justin: We have a reservation under “Jenkins”
The suited man from the previous night had booked the table so Justin just assumed he would have used is surname. His guess proved to me correct as the young ladies face lit up as she found the name on the reservation list.
Staff member: Yes sir, Marco will take you to your table. Your guest hasn’t arrived yet.
Justin thanked her as another staff member who he assumed was “Marco” and was confirmed by the name badge, appeared in front of him.
Marco: This way sir.
He started to lead the way and Justin noted that he was the typical Italian. Lean, not particularly muscular and dark features. He guessed that Marco would think he was a hit with the ladies. Well Justin could show him a thing or two in that department. He arrived at the table and ordered a beer while he waited for the suited man, who according to his business card went by the name of Mark.
The drink arrived at pretty much the same time as Mark but looked distinctly cooler. Mark had a sweat on and looked flustered. His pinstriped suit was far from straight and his tie was over his left shoulder.
Justin couldn’t help but laugh as he said : What happened to you?
Mark collapsed down on his chair.
Mark: I HATE city traffic. I was stuck in the back of a taxi for ten minutes and we moved about five meters! And he charged me $20 for the priviledge!
He paused to catch his breath.
Mark: So I got out of the car and ran all the way here.
Justin laughed again. He was beginning to like the guy, although he still hadn’t explained the purpose of this little meeting.
Justin: If you had waited a couple seconds and given me chance to respond last night I could have given you my card, we could have rearranged for later if you were struggling for time.
Mark had evidently not been thinking too straight and struggled to answer but was saved by Marco returning with menus.
They each began scanning the menus as Justin noticed the briefcase that Mark had brought with him.
Justin: Whats in the case?
Mark looked away from the menu for a second.
Mark: All in good time Justin, order what you like, it’s on me.
This frustrated Justin somewhat. He didn’t like not knowing things. The frustration must have showed on his face as Mark put the menu down and placed the briefcase on the table. He entered the code on the twisty dials and fliped the catches. He opened the briefcase and took out three brown files. He chucked the first towards Justin.
Justin took up the file and opened it. At the top in bold font clear as day was the word “Contract”. This was of course followed by many other words, all getting smaller as they proceeded down the page.
Justin: A contract?
Mark: Yes Justin. My associate is starting a new company to rival the established names in wrestling. I am helping him bring the right people in and your name appeared across my desk from more than one source.
Justin looked interested as he quickly scanned through the papers.
Justin: What’s the catch? I’ve never been offered a big time contract in my life, how do I know this is legit?
Mark smiled reassuringly.
Mark: Feel free to take it away, get a lawyer to look over it if you wish. I assure you there are no caches in there. We want you to be part of this project and we already have a tv contrat in place. Instant stardom Justin. This is no joke.
Justin tried to get his head around what was happening. This could potentially be the biggest thing in his career. He was fed up of seeing talentless, oversized ‘roid heads being preferred to him when the scouts wondered around. He had won everything he possibly could on the Indy circuit and now, finally he had a break.
Justin: Ok I’m interested, what’s in the other two folders?
Mark smiled and pushed the two folders towards Justin.
Mark: The first is a file on the opponent we are thinking of facing you against in the opening match. The second is a retainer. Just a little something to keep you going until everything is in place and we are ready to go. Obviously we don’t want one of our future stars getting injured fighting on the Indy circuit.
Justin opened the third file, there would be time to view his opponent later. His eyes bulged open as he saw the collection of zero’s lined up after the first number. His reaction was cut short by the returning waiter.
Marco : Are you two gentlemen ready to order?
Justin and Mark looked at each other and nodded.
>>>END FLASHBACK<<<
As the scene returned to the car park Justin Flash had retrieved his bag and was heading towards the arena entrance. The entrance for staff and wrestlers, not the entrance for the general public. As he entered the building he noticed the poster publicising tonights event. He smiled as he noticed his face on the banner for the flagship show. He also liked the fact that none of the wrestlers had a bigger billing than the others. For tonight everyone was a virtual unknown quantity, never before had they been together in the same space.
Once inside he followed some signs to the locker room area. He was aware of his match being a falls count anywhere match so he was careful to pay extra attention to the layout of the building just in case the action made its way backstage later on. He noted the locations of objects such as ladders and fire extinguishers, that sort of thing, in case he needed an advantage. Eventually he made his way to the locker room.
<Scene 2 – Pre match>
It had been three hours since Justin Flash had arrived at the arena and now there were butterflies starting to make their presence known in his stomach. He was poised to take part in the first match in the history of Beyond Plus Wrestling! It was also the biggest match in his career as it was being televised live. Millions of people would be focused on him for those precious few minutes. Along with the nerves came huge excitement. The regular shots of adrenaline his body was kind enough to prepare for him sent his heart racing. He was in his ring attire of blue three quarter length pants and had red ties around his biceps. He continued to pace the floor when he heard a knock at the door.
Justin: Come in....
He waited to see who this was. The door creaked as it opened and Justin was happy to see a very pretty lady enter.
Pretty lady: Um...hi...I’m Alesha McManus. I’m on a trial as a backstage interviewer and it would really help me if I could get an interview with you..
She looked on hopefully. She was cute. 5’6” and slim but with nicely shaped breasts and a gorgeous shade of red hair.
Justin: Sure thing sweetie, anything to help out a gorgeous lady.
Alesha visibly blushed.
Alesha: Oh thank you, I will go get my cameraman and set up.
She disappeared happily as Justin turned to the mirror slightly disappointed to see a hair out of place but this was quickly remedied.
It wasn’t long before Alesha was set up and sat next to Justin on the couch that took the centre of the locker room.
Alesha: Good evening wrestling fans. Tonight sees history made as Beyond Plus broadcasts to the world for the very first time. I am Alesha McManus and I have with me Justin Flash who will be taking part in that very first match later tonight. Justin how does it feel to be here in Beyond Plus?
Justin: Well Alesha, it truely feels like we are on the brink of something very special here. This is the biggest promotion I have been involved with to date and when the opportunity was explained to me I jumped straight at it.
Alesha: Tonight sees you opening the show against Leon Lonewolf. How do you feel about this?
Justin: Well Alesha tonight is a fresh start for everyone. I myself have only ever wrestled the Indy scene and have done dam well for myself there but I see that Leon Lonewolf has the advantage on higher level experience. He has held titles before which no doubt he will brag about. What he should realise is that here those titles count for nothing, not jack shit. Tonight everyone starts from zero. Tonight Leon Lonewolf will experience first hand exactly why I have been handed this opportunity. Exactly why I was headhunted for this federation. Tonight Leon Lonewolf gets knocked the fuck out!
Alesha: You seem very confident Justin.
Justin: That is because I am Alesha and I have every right to be. Leon Lonewolf to me appears a little long in the tooth. He has had some modicum of success in some small federations and won a few titles but with success comes complacency. My guess is it will have been quite some time since he has been hit by someone with as much hunger and desire as Justin Flash. He will also have nothing to go on. I will be a “rookie” to him and he will more that likely underestimate me, that will be his biggest mistake but just like everyone else here he will learn that I am not someone to be messed with.
Alesha: How do you think the match stipulation will affect the match with it being a Falls Count Anywhere scenario?
Justin: Well Alesha I guarantee tonight that at some point Leon Lonewolf will want to get the hell away from me. It will not be long before he realises he just simply has no chance. Now in a normal match he could simply leave the ring and lose by DQ saving a little bit of face and denying me a pin. In this match however he will have nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. The whole arena is my playground and he will surely be begging me to take the three count and end his suffering. Make no mistake Alesha, tonight my main goal is to send a message to the locker room that Justin Flash means business and I have every intention of becoming the first every World Champion.
Alesha: Wow I love your determination, what are your thoughts on the lineup as a whole tonight?
Justin: It isn’t a bad start considering it has all been put together in a few weeks. Normally it would take months to get a show going so all credit to Seth for that but you know honestly tonight the card is upside down. I mean the main event tonight is the first match. In years to come if someone asks what the main event was no-one will remember whoever the hell Blaze is. If you ask those same people what the first ever match in the history of Beyond Plus was they will instantly tell you Flash v Lonewolf! It will be epic and it will be the first steps on my personal journey to the World Title. I just hope the wolf cub turns up so I can send him packing again with his tail between his legs. This is my time and tonight everyone will see exactly what I can do!
The scene fades out as the fans continue to pile into the arena excitedly.
